Second Chance Scholars

Creating equitable access to education for students of all ages.

Providing mentorship, skill-building workshops, and scholarships so students can strengthen resilience and take charge of their postsecondary educational journeys.

OUR MISSION

To empower K-12 youth and college students, especially those who are nontraditional, to build resilience and overcome challenges by supporting their educational and personal success.

OUR STORY

Many students face challenges that make academic success less likely. According to the National Student Clearinghouse, as of 2025, 37.6 million Americans have left higher education without graduating. However, over one million adults have returned to college after previously stopping out.

I know these challenges personally. At 19, I failed out of college. That experience taught me the value of resilience, support, and resources. Today, I am a soon-to-be summa cum laude graduate.

Second Chance Scholars was created to help students who face academic or personal setbacks. We provide mentorship, skill-building programs, and scholarships to build resilience in students of all ages. Our focus is on equipping students with the tools that they need to thrive academically and personally.

‌Impact Plan as Miss Michigan

Partnerships

Creating partnerships with organizations of like missions is key to expansion. Our current partnership with SVSU's TRIO Student Support Services will expand statewide. These partnerships allow us to broaden our reach to students who need our resources the most. Verbal negotiations have begun with 2 additional chapters across Michigan. We are stronger, together.

Education

The skills necessary to achieve future academic success begin at early as preschool. Skills such as trait identification, S.M.A.R.T. goal setting, and case studies of famous failures begin at the K-12 level. Our age appropriate curriculum, delivered firsthand or by trained teachers, will reach at least one school in all of Michigan's 83 counties through strategically planned regional rollouts.

Scholarships

Second Chance Scholars will expand scholarship awards by extending directly to the Miss Michigan Scholarship Program. This annual award will provide a $1,000 scholarship to a Miss Michigan contestant that uses social media in a strategic way to share their own educational journeys, including setbacks and successes. One year with the crown will build a legacy that extends beyond it.
